EEG Technician
Position Summary: Uses specialized equipment that monitors brain activity to perform electroencephalographic procedures on patients. Ensures accurate diagnostic results for patients by performing EEG (electroencephalogram) testing consistent with department policies.
Troubleshoots equipment. Performs department related clerical duties.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
1. Obtains patient's medical chart for history of head injury, epilepsy or trauma, and is alert to these symptoms during testing.
2. Instructs patient as to purpose and procedure to be performed.
- Performs electroencephalograms, ambulatory EEG’s, BAER’s, VEP and other tests within scope of practice.
4. Edits and prepares test for reading by a physician.
5. Reports findings or concerns to reading physician for prompt interpretation.
6. Cleans and maintains equipment (EEG machine and accessories).
7. Uses specific protocol for patient wires including removal, proper cleaning and storage.
8. Performs clerical duties, e.g. scheduling appointments, processing reports, answering phones, filing, etc.
- Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
- Maintains all required documentation, logs, charts, forms, and records in paper and electronic formats.
- Performs other related duties as required and directed.
Qualifications:
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited electroneurodiagnostic technician program or three years of experience using the 10/20 electrode placement system for EEG testing.
- BLS certification.
Preferred:
- Current registration from the American Society of Electroneurodiagnostic Technicians (ASET)
